Android 4.4 KitKat on Samsung Galaxy Note N7000

First version of Galaxy Note tablets which bring Samsung on top of the tablets lines, Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 is still very popular among Note tablet users. If you’re have the Note N7000, then you may probably looking to update it to latest Android 4.4 KitKat operating system. Many thanks to XDA developers who’ve done terrific work and presented the Android 4.4 KitKat based Custom ROM.

The name of the Custom ROM is Asylum Omni, it based on official OminROM 4.4 KitKat ROM. It is lighter and faster then the original source. This ROM is modded with completely dark user interface, which makes is a beautiful looking ROM. Apart from performance and design, to save your lots of internal memory and ROM, lots of unused apps has been removed from it. If you’re wanting to know more about this ROM before flashing it to your device then you must consider to visit the official thread here.

In order to flash or install this ROM on your tab, you must follow the exact installation guide and don’t skip or avoid any steps listed here. Even it based on official ROM, still there may be some bugs (not mentioned or found yet). The developers claim that, this ROM have only those bugs which are on official OmniROM 4.4.2 ROM.

Note: –  If in any case your device gets damaged or bricked after installing this ROM then we will not responsible for that. This guide is only meant for education and knowledge purpose. Do it on your own risk.

Before proceeding to any further to installation, read all the pre-requisites listed below very carefully and make sure that your device is compatible for this update from all aspects.

Pre-requisites

This OminROM 4.4 based custom ROM is only made for Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 model and meant nothing for any other device. Don’t try it on any version or model of Galaxy Note series.

For future aspects, it is always to better make backup of current ROM. If any thing goes wrong after installing this ROM then you switch back to old ROM at any time using that backup. To make a backup of current ROM, you need to reboot to recovery mode(look into the installation guide), then look for “backup and restore” options then under them you’ll find option to backup the ROM.

Most important: – In order to install this ROM without any issues and bugs, you need a latest recovery installed on your device. Currently, ClockWorkMod 6.0.4.3 is latest for the Note N7000. The complete download and installation procedure for ClockWorkMod 6.0.4.3 is given in this guide.

Make sure to save your all stuff and data stored under the phone’s memory to safe place. Everything stored under the phone’s internal memory will be wiped out.

Enable USB debugging, go “menu -> settings -> developer options”, then check the USB debugging box to enable it. It enable your phone to connect to PC through USB cable, so you can transfer files to phone.

Charge your phone to good Extent, make sure your phone have at least 50% charging before you proceed to installation process.

How to install Latest CWM 6.0.4.3 on Galaxy Note N7000

  1. Firstly download CWM  6.0.4.3 zip file here. (recovery-clockwork-6.0.4.3-n7000.zip) and copy it to SD card of your device.
  2. Now turn off the device and wait for 5-7 seconds.
  3. Now press and hold Volume Up + Home + Power buttons at the same time until you Samsung Logo appears on screen. Now release the buttons and you’ll entering to recovery mode.
  4. Now if you’re on stock recovery then select “apply update from sdcard” and then “choose zip from SD card”. Find and locate the downloaded “recovery-clockwork-6.0.4.3-n7000.zip” file from sd card and select “Yes” on next screen to confirm the selection.
  5. So, after you flash the new recovery zip file, you’ll be at new new recovery mode. So you’ve done with installating latest recovery image on your Galaxy Note N7000. Now proceed to ROM installation guide.

How to install Android 4.4 KitKat on Galaxy Note N7000

  1. Download all the files listed in Downloads section and put them to SD card of your device. Don’t put them under any folder or directory, just copy them to root of SD card.
  2. Turn off the device and wait for 5-7 seconds after it.
  3. Now enter into the recovery mode by pressing and holding Volume Up + Home + Power buttons at the same time until you Samsung Logo appears on screen. You’ll be at the new recovery mode, as you’ve installed the latest recovery in early steps.
  4. Now in order to perform a clean and bugs free installation, perform the following operation using recovery options (all are compulsory and don’t skip any of them)
    1. Select “Wipe data/Factory reset”, then select “Yes” on the next screen to confirm it.
    2. Select “wipe cache partition“, then select “Yes” on next screen to confirm your selection.
    3. Go back main menu of recovery and then go to “Mounts and Storage“, mount the following: mount system, mount cache and mount data.
    4. Go back main menu of recovery and then go to “Mounts and Storage“-> Format System and select “Yes” on the next screen to confirm.
    5. Go back main menu of recovery, again, and go to “Advanced“-> “Wipe Dalvik Cache” and select Yes from the next screen to confirm it.
  5. Now, its time to flash the kernel file. From recovery options, select “install zip from sd card” then “Choose zip from sdcard”. Browse and locate the downloaded “Kernel Zip file” and select “Yes” on next screen to confirm the selection.
  6. Now “reboot” the recovery.
  7. Now get back to recovery options, select “install zip from sd card” then “Choose zip from sdcard”, find and locate the downloaded “ROM Zip file” and then “Yes” to confirm the flashing process.
  8. It will takes some time gets completed, so be patience at that time.
  9. When it completes, similarly flash the “Removed Apps zip” file and SuperUS zip file.
  10. Select “Wipe data/Factory reset”, then select “Yes” on the next screen to confirm it.
  11. Go back main menu of recovery, again, and go to “Advanced”-> “Wipe Dalvik Cache” and select Yes from the next screen to confirm it.
  12. Select “reboot system now” and all done!

    But I noticed that my phone is always hot even if not being used?
    Any reason for this behavior?

    • Hello, check to CPU tools, it may be possible that higher Clock it enabled in it. Or you can try the new update, i’ve updated post with latest Android 4.2.2 KitKat version!

        Power button to select
        Reboot system now
        Apply update from AOB
        Apply update from external storage
        Wipe cache reset Wipe cache partition
        Apply update from cache..
        I did as per instructions….but got..same after trying 3-4 times..
        E: signature verification failed…
        E: failed to verify whole file signature

          • Hello Rakesh, Can you tell me which recovery you are using? Its CWM or Stock recovery? If you are using stock recovery or not able to install CWM through stock recovery as listed above, then you must first use Rom Manager App to install CWM recovery and then install this Rom.

          Samsung N7000 Galaxy note
          Android version 4.1.2
          Base band Version N7000DDLS6
          having kernel version 3.0.31-9.6407 to upgrade to Android 4.4 KitKat.
          All the options above said are displayed during set up..pressing Volume Up+Power+center button.

          • I think your file is corrupted due to bad download..try moving the file to your pc..test if you can open it with zip file..if it cant be open..the file is bad..try it 1st..who knows..cheers

  3. I’m a real noob with this kind of thing, I tried following your instruction. When installing the CWM file my phone just turned off in the middle of executing the file. FYI I tried executing from ‘apply update from external storage’ since I there was no option to ‘apply update from sdcard’ on my phone.

    Android: 4.0.4
    Baseband: N7000DXLR1
    Build: IMM76D.DXLR5

    Prior to this I’ve tried installing CWM recovery via Rom Manager but it kept turning off in the middle of everything. Help please!

    If i install clockworkmod recovery 6.0.4.3 then what will be bugs in cell??
    I mean what will be draw backs of it..Coz i heard that camera not works properly

  8. When I try to open camera/ gallery it shows no “SD card not available”. But 16gb external card is already inserted. I tried to mount SD card form boot menu but afterwards it shows “idle unmounted” and the problem is continued. Also the playstore is not opening, please help..

  9. I have updated 4.4.2 successfully in N7000 but phone got hanged & when tried to reboot the phone, Asylum logo is just displaying & gets hanged.

    Screen is flickering & phone gets switched off.What should i do now.

    • Hello Hitesh, just go back to recovery and perform : Wipe data/Factory reset,Wipe data cache and under mount and storage, format the system. It will solves your all problem.

    • Make sure that you are not using stock recovery. If on stock recovery then first install CWM and then try it again.

  11. Hi This is the first time I’ve ever installed a custom rom on my device and I have a problem. When I try to open the store it doesnt show up and nothing happens. Also I can’t add any accounts in settings, when I hit ‘add account’ it just doesn’t do anything. Please help me, my phone is worthless when I can’t install any apps.

    • Hello Wouter, congrats on your fist installation. Just go to application manager then under downloaded section look for Google Play Store, select it. Then on next screen, find and click on Uninstall updates. Now, reboot the device.

    • Hello Kalpesh,
      Go to application manager and then look for downloaded application. Under it, look for Google Play Store app, tap on it to get more options. Now select Uninstall updates and Clear data. Then Restart your phone. I hope it will work for you!

  17. After installing omni 4.4.2 everything works great. But than it started updating. After a view updates my wifi stopped working. Any ideas.

  18. hi…can u help me or everyone can help.my galaxy note GT-N7000 .step by step i do likes by regarding in this site.but after step5 i can’t see what like step 6″Reboot the Recovery”‘and i tried to to reboot sytem now but i see no root file in display.so i tried to do agains start from step 4 until step 5 my phone is shutdown.i tried to start my phone on recovery mod again but only the samsung loga just i see .my phone can’t start or shutdown.please ….any one can help me ?

  20. I am using OMNI rom for Kitkat 4.4.2 version in my galaxy note I n7000 . Definitely this is the fastest rom and working very efficiently but I am also facing some critical issues like
    1)sudden downfall in battery and
    2)mobile is heating.
    3)Battery life is reduced suddenly.Previously it was running for approx 2 days and now I have to charge it atleast 3 times in a day.
    4)Uncertain reboot

    Apart from these issues, still I am using this rom only because of performance.Now no 1 can say that android is not optimised.

    I hope that dev team will fix these high priority bugs ASAP.
